Who We Are
Mission: To coordinate wildlife rehabilitation efforts in western North Carolina by providing care for injured and orphaned wildlife, supporting the wildlife rehabilitation network, and offering conservation education to the community.
For decades, Western North Carolina’s home-based wildlife rehabilitators have been overwhelmed, and the community has needed more resources along with a dedicated facility to bring wildlife in need.
In October of 2014, Appalachian Wildlife Refuge was established by a team of volunteers with the depth of knowledge, experience, and expertise to bring the goal of a wildlife rehabilitation facility to life. With thoughtful planning, generous support, and the extensive commitment of volunteers, the Appalachian Wild rehabilitation facility opened on July 6, 2018.
Appalachian Wild is keeping very busy providing rehabilitation to wildlife in crisis, as well as engaging and educating the public about native wildlife.
What We Do
Appalachian Wild provides injured and orphaned wild animals a place to go for care and treatment to give them a second chance at life in the wild.
We fulfill our mission mainly through four stages: Rescue, Rehab, Release, and Relate.
