Community Benefit Tree

To empower families to effectively navigate medical debt by encompassing finances, fundraising, education, resources and spiritual well-being.

The Family Support Program is CBT's most impactful program and can be accessed throughout the year. Through this program, we help families avoid bankruptcy, keep their homes and their jobs, and develop financial skills that allow them to fully recover from their medical crisis. Here, Community Benefit Tree supports families by offering case management, resource navigation, financial planning, basic needs support, and more.

Case Management:
Families receive ongoing guidance as they navigate a stressful season, leading to better mental, emotional, and financial well-being. At any time there are between 35-45 families on the long-term caseload. Family support specialists help these families set and reach goals over 1-5 years.

Resource Navigation:
Family support specialists help families navigate resources from health insurance, complex healthcare systems, available government and community aid programs, and revenue generation sources they may be unfamiliar with.

Financial Planning:
Community Benefit Tree helps families create realistic budgets, leverage resources, and map out sustainability plans.

Basic Needs Support:
Many families qualify for direct assistance to pay for basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. Basic needs are provided through a variety of funds that are supported by donations. CBT does not provide cash assistance but rather pays bills directly or provides gift cards for groceries, gas, and other basic needs.

Emotional Support:                                                                                                                                Providing an ear to listen. Most families just need someone to talk to so we provide an ear to listen which helps to provide relief, comfort and peace of mind.

Fundraising Support:                                                                                                                                    We equip families and the supporters with the right tools to plan a fundraiser (benefit), we also offer other ways to fundraise: Fundraising website page, Resale of their unwanted items in the thrift store, or provide partnership fundraising opportunities.
