Our Vision: Sport will open hearts and minds towards people with intellectual disabilities and create inclusive communities across Wisconsin. Globally, we strive to end discrimination against people with ID.
Our Values: Integrity Teamwork Inclusion Excellence
What We Do
Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) empowers and creates a place of belonging for all people, especially those with intellectual disabilities through sports, health care, leadership trainings, and Unified Champion Schools. Athletes have the opportunity to participate in 19 sports throughout the year, competing in regional competitions and have the ability to qualify for statewide, national and international competitions as well. SOWI also provides essential health care to our athletes through physical exams, hearing tests, eye and dental exams, referring athletes as needed for further care. We know that an athlete performs their best when they are at optimal health. We are committed to removing barriers to healthcare for those with ID. Many athletes take advantage of our leadership development classes to further their skills in areas such as self-advocating, learning how to become an athlete coach and others. Special Olympics Wisconsin also does a lot of work with local communities to create inclusive schools in the hopes that this generation will grow up bring an end to discrimination against those with intellectual disabilities.
