Who We Are
Mission: To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.
UWABC, created in 1921, is committed to collaborating with donors, volunteers, community partners, and those most affected by inequity and poverty to co-create a community where all share equal access to the resources necessary to attain the education, financial stability, and health needed to thrive.
What We Do
To accomplish its mission, UWABC engages in the following programs and initiatives:
- Community Partnerships: UWABC invests community dollars in organizations and programs that provide strong support for the education, financial stability, and health of everyone in the community.
- Community Schools: UWABC partners with Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, and the Asheville Buncombe Middle Grades Network, a network of more than 50 local service providers, to organize resources and use local middle schools as district-wide hubs for services that support the health, education, and financial stability of families and neighboring communities.
- Hands On Asheville-Buncombe: The volunteer center of UWABC, Hands On connects individuals and groups with volunteer opportunities to meet critical needs at nonprofit organizations and schools within the community.
