Mission: To work together as a school community to create an environment that embraces diversity, cultivates academic excellence, encourages citizenship, and nurtures a love of learning.
West Buncombe Elementary is a public elementary school located in the Erwin District in the Buncombe County Schools System. The school envisions its students reaching their full potential academically and personally in order to participate in a diverse, global society.
What We Do
West Buncombe Elementary serves children in kindergarten through fourth grades, offering a curriculum for each grade that aligns with North Carolina State Standards for academics and includes English language arts, math, social studies, and science. Curriculum enrichments include arts education with experiences in both music and visual arts, an English as a Second Language program for students whose primary language is other than English, health and physical education, and library/media services. Specialized services include the academically gifted program, counseling for groups and individuals, and an exceptional children’s program which offers individualized services for students with disabilities. Extracurricular activities include numerous clubs such as:
- Chorus
- Clogging Club
- Jump Rope Team
- Math Team
- Odyssey of the Mind
- Running Eagles
- Tile Club
