Who We Are
Mission: To improve food security, strengthen communities, and cultivate sustainable livelihoods through agriculture.
Seed Programs International (SPI) is a nonprofit humanitarian organization working world-wide to help people improve their lives through vegetable production. The organization envisions a world in which even the poorest, most disadvantaged people have access to viable seed and the knowledge to grow and utilize food.
What We Do
SPI works worldwide through other humanitarian organizations, church groups, service clubs, and individual donors to provide quality seed to developing countries and communities that are impoverished, enabling people to grow some of their own food. This work focuses on the acquisition, selection, testing, packaging, shipping, and distribution of quality seed. SPI engages in additional activities such as:
- Seed Assessment: Identifying seed shortages in different regions worldwide by assessing seed availability, seed access, and seed knowledge and utilization practices.
- Training Coordination: Working with partners to develop and fund specific train-the-trainer programs on vegetable growing and utilization strategies.
- Seed Sourcing Support: Helping organizations in partner countries or regions find local sources of equivalent-quality seeds, negotiate seed selection and pricing, and integrate seed sources into local supply chains.
