Who We Are

Mission: To promote the independence, dignity, and well-being of adults through service, education, and advocacy.

The Council on Aging of Buncombe County is an independent 501(c)(3) organization. COAbc is not a government agency or a subsidiary of any larger organization.

Established in 1964, COAbc strives to provide personal and caring support as we age together. Whether you are learning the Medicare system, looking for services to help you stay healthy and independent at home, or need caregiver support, COAbc can help you make the right connections.

COAbc receives funding from local, state, and federal grants as well as contracts with other organizations, private foundations, sponsors, individual donors, and corporate sponsors.

What We Do

The Council on Aging of Buncombe County (COAbc) offers a range of programs and services to support older adults and their caregivers, promoting independence, dignity, and well-being. Key offerings include:

  • Affordable Care Act Assistance: Providing education and support for health insurance enrollment through the ACA.
  • Call-A-Ride: Volunteer-based transportation services for seniors unable to drive or access public transit.
  • Caregiver Support: Resources and respite services for individuals caring for aging loved ones.
  • Dining and Wellness: Senior dining programs offering nutritious meals and social engagement opportunities.
  • Home Repair: Minor home repairs to enhance safety and accessibility for older adults.
  • Homebound Food Delivery: Monthly delivery of shelf-stable food to homebound seniors.
  • Medicare Health Insurance Counseling: Individual counseling sessions to assist with Medicare benefits and options.
  • Resource Coordination: Personalized assistance in navigating and accessing various services and support.

These programs are designed to help older adults age successfully and provide valuable resources for caregivers and family members in Buncombe County.
