Who We Are

Mission: To foster a rich learning environment that embodies the essence of community, understanding and the human spirit.

FernLeaf is a small, compassionate, K-12 public charter school dedicated to providing students with engaging, hands on, experiential learning opportunities. FernLeaf started in 2017 as a K-3 school and has grown one grade per year.

Grounded in humble respect for our surroundings, the individual and the world as a whole, we seek to engage the unique passions and aptitudes of our school community so that in addition to achieving academic fluency, students become thoughtful, compassionate and engaged.

As part of our commitment to the local community, we continue to work with Conserving Carolina and the Town of Fletcher on the extension of the Cane Creek Greenway through our current FernLeaf Creek Campus. This project has been awarded a Clean Water Management Trust Fund grant. An important part of the project was recently completed with the addition of new sidewalks and a crosswalk connecting the school to Fletcher Park.

What We Do

We foster a place where all students feel…

  • ENCOURAGED  to develop their innate creativity and curiosity, are connected to their community and the environment, and can experience the joy and wonder of learning and living.
  • CHALLENGED  by a rich and rigorous approach to academics while learning the skills necessary to be thoughtful, compassionate, and engaged individuals.
  • INSPIRED  to pursue their unique passions and aptitudes.

The needs of all students are met by providing…

  • a small K-12 learning environment built upon kindness, respect, and trust.
  • a robust Experiential and Project Based Learning Model utilizing the Common Core and NC Essential Standards.
  • kind and caring teachers who balance traditional core academics through an integrated approach that includes social-emotional learning, arts, service learning and stewardship, environmental education/awareness, sustainable living, outdoor education, entrepreneurship, cultural awareness, foreign language, and comprehensive health and wellness.
  • small collaborative learning environments, personalized learning plans, mastery checklists for foundational skills in math, and meaningful assessments all designed to help students, parents, and teachers be successful.
  • comprehensive services for at risk, EC, 504, and ELL students.
