Who We Are

Mission: To alleviate human suffering by helping people prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

The American Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that helps communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. The Western North Carolina Chapter serves a 16-county region. 

What We Do

Activities of the American Red Cross include the following:

  • Blood Services:  Ongoing blood collection, testing, and distribution to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply in time of need.
  • Training Services:  Provision of training and certification in areas such as First Aid, CPR/AED, Babysitting and Child Care, Swimming and Water Safety, Lifeguarding, and CNA skills. 
  • Disaster Services:  Provision of shelter, meals, clothing, and emotional support to those affected by disaster. 
  • Home Fire Campaign:  Installation of free smoke alarms in homes that don’t have them and education of people about home fire safety.
