Who We Are

Mission: To connect students to an increased awareness of the natural world, the complexities of agriculture, and the interrelations of living communities.

Asheville Farmstead is a non-profit, outdoor, farm and forest-based school campus designed to teach homesteading, natural sciences, life skills, sustainability, and agriculture to children and families through school, summer camp, community events, and more. Asheville Farmstead School envisions a community where each time a child engages with nature, nature teaches the child in a way that sparks curiosity and cultivates respect.

What We Do

Asheville Farmstead School serves preschool children, youth, schools, groups, and nature-loving families through a variety of programs and activities:

  • Sprouts: Half-day preschool for 3 – 6 year olds where children explore and engage with the natural world through freeplay with peers in nature.
  • Littlest Learners: Half-day or full-day farm-and-forest-based early childhood program for 5 – 8 year olds that focuses on foundational academic skills, social-emotional skills, and whole-child development.
  • Family Discovery Days: Monthly theme-based, learn-and-play events for all ages, where family members tour the farm, play in the field, and explore the forest.
  • Camp Farmstead: Day camp sessions throughout the summer for 3 – 12 year olds focusing on weekly themes as the contexts for outside exploring, playing, and learning.
  • Large Groups and Festivals:  Afternoon events at the farm or a presence at community festivals tailored to specific school and community groups with activities such as team building exercises, nature art, and science experiences.

Asheville Farmstead School is located on 25 acres of forested land near Asheville.
