City of Asheville Parks and Recreation is a governmental department of the city of Asheville. Asheville Parks and Recreation is dedicated to enhancing community members’ quality of life by providing diverse cultural and recreational experiences.
What We Do
In addition to maintaining numerous parks, playgrounds, pools, greenways, and community centers in Asheville, Parks and Recreation offers a variety of programs for children, youth, adults, and seniors, such as:
- Athletic Programs: Seasonal individual and team sports for youth and adults such as basketball, tennis, karate, and volleyball.
- Therapeutic Programs: Specialized recreational services, such as adaptive bowling and inclusive football, for individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities.
- After-School Programs: Conveniently located after-school activities including homework help, organized games, free play, crafts, and (for teens) community service projects.
- Summer Camps: For children and youth, traditional summer camps, as well as themed specialty camps, outdoor adventure camps, therapeutic camps, and WNC Nature Center camps.
- Senior Programs: A variety of services for seniors such as fitness programs, healthy living, billiards, line dancing, yoga, and field trips.
- Special events: Geared to local communities, events such as outdoor movies, picnics, fun days, arts festivals, pool parties, and 5K races.
