Who We Are

Mission: To facilitate meaningful human connection to strengthen social health, cultivate compassion, and equip people with the power to give and receive authentic support.

SeekHealing was founded in 2018 after the co-founders, inspired by a friend’s recovery from an opioid overdose, realized the importance of meaningful social connection in addiction recovery. We developed a new approach focused on “social health,” healing trauma through human connection, with guidance from experts like Dr. Rachel Wurzman and Dr. Gabor Maté. Our first community started in Asheville, NC, growing quickly from 8 members to 500 by 2019. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we launched an online community, and in 2021, expanded to Waynesville, NC. We serve those seeking recovery from addiction and loneliness.

What We Do

SeekHealing provides free support services to anyone at any stage in the addiction healing process and educates the community about healthy social connection. Support services focus on meaningful human connection and include the following:

  • Listening Training: A six-week course focused on establishing meaningful connections with others through active listening, boundary setting, and non judgemental interactions.
  • Connection Practice: Group meetings where participants practice newly learned skills in relating with others more authentically.
  • Seeker Pairs: Weekly one-on-one meetings between participant pairs that provide a context for meaningful social connections.
  • Extra Care Program: Free direct treatment services supporting individuals who are changing their use of opioids or amphetamines, including weekly meetings; counseling, bodywork, and acupuncture sessions; and transportation to SeekHealing activities.
  • Connection Boosters: Free access for participants to activities and classes.
  • Socials and Gatherings: Substance-free events, such as social gatherings, pickup basketball, foraging hikes, yoga, meditation, poetry workshops, and aerial arts classes, that provide opportunities for connecting with others.
