Community Nights featuring Homework Diners are a welcoming family engagement event at the school that take place on the North Buncombe Middle School campus and includes a free, catered meal for families and students, time for relationship building between school staff and families, academic tutoring support and connections to community resources.
Community Nights are open to any family in the North Buncombe community, whether they have a child attending the school or not.
The North Buncombe Middle Community Nights occur on twice a month on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30 pm. Each day will have 3 slots available for a 2-hour shift. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 4:45 pm and leave at 6:45 pm to assist with setting up and breaking down the event.
Roles
- Registering, welcoming, and directing attendees at the event
- Homework Support
- Meal Service Assistance
Attire
- Wear comfortable, close-toed non-skid shoes (ie. sneakers, Crocs, etc.)*
- Wear clothing that you are ok getting dirty*

- Sign the Community Night waiver o
- Read the follow-up email sent by the UWABC Community Nights Manager - be sure to arrive at the relevant time for the shift
- Follow all Health and Safety guidelines

- Masks are optional, bring your own if you need one
- Hand sanitizer is available on site
- Gloves provided while handling food
Skills
- Positive customer service skills
- Bending, twisting, and stooping can occur depending on the role assigned
- Comfortable standing for long periods of time
