Our primary program is an annual Science and Engineering Fair designed to broaden student engagement in STEM. Along with feeder science and engineering fairs at participating schools, this event exposes middle and high school students to inquiry based science and design thinking engineering that takes them beyond the classroom and focuses on real-world problems. The next fair is scheduled for March 10 - 11, 2024 at the Shrine Auditorium. Through their projects, students develop and refine skills that span multiple disciplines, including but not limited to reading, research, critical thinking, math, writing, data analysis, computer science, organization, presentation, and time management.
We expect more than 700 students to participate in this fair and we are looking to recruit about 300 judges to interview the students and evaluate their projects. These judges will need to be available in person from 7AM to about 4 PM on Monday, March 11th, 2024 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Center in downtown Los Angeles.
Anyone with an engineering or a science background (any of the sciences including ecology, psychology, math and computer science) can serve as a judge. An undergrad in science can judge for the middle school level and if the individual has masters or PhD with research experience, can serve as a judge for the senior level - high school projects.
Students will submit their work online 10 days prior to the event and the judges will have access to review their video presentations, read their abstracts, and do the initial evaluation before meeting the students in person on March 11th, 2024.
Students’ interaction with the judges is the single most memorable experience for these young scientists!! It is also a very rewarding experience for the judges.
