About the Organization
At the History Museum we seek to inspire people to discover and appreciate history, and in particular the rich history of the Fox Valley, through exhibition, education, and collections. In addition to the public exhibits offered at the History Museum at the Castle located in downtown Appleton, the organization offers educational experiences for adults and children, traveling exhibits available to companies and community partners, and an extensive collection of archival documents and photos available for research. The museum serves our local community, but also draws a substantial number of visitors statewide, nationally, and even internationally.
On April 26, 2024, the Museum celebrated the grand opening of a new permanent exhibit of our local history called 'You Are Here'. ‘You Are Here’ provides students, residents, and visitors an opportunity to learn about the rich history of the Fox Valley region. In addition to this new exhibit and the permanent Houdini exhibit, in recent years the History Museum has highlighted important, yet often overlooked, segments of our community with exhibits like Stone of Hope: Black Experiences in the Fox Cities and (In)Visible: Homelessness in Appleton.

The Board meets eight times per year for about one and a half to two hours, generally in-person. Occasionally, committee meetings or discussions involving a few board members to address specific issues are held virtually.
