Who We Are

Literacy Network was founded in 1974 in Madison, Wisconsin. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers support adult students as they develop their literacy and language skills and work toward their goals. Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with students on a weekly basis to support skill development in: reading and writing, English language, basic computer skills, citizenship preparation, and GED/HSED preparation. Thorough initial training and regular ongoing support is provided to all volunteers.

What We Do

Literacy Network serves more than 1,000 adults each year in Dane County, Wisconsin. Our students are immigrants, refugees, and lifelong Wisconsinites who have literacy goals. With the support of more than 500 annual volunteers, Literacy Network provides personalized education services so that our students can achieve their goals. Participants in our tutoring and group classes improve their skills in English language communication, reading comprehension, and use of information technology. As a result, they advance their careers, help their kids succeed in school, become U.S. citizens, understand healthcare providers, or earn their high school equivalency diplomas or other degrees. Our small classes and one-on-one tutoring create personalized learning experiences for everyone we serve. Literacy Network also builds strategic partnerships with schools, businesses, libraries and community organizations to serve local needs throughout our community.
