Who We Are
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Buncombe County is a nonprofit youth development organization serving young people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and life experiences, particularly those who are vulnerable or marginalized. The mission of The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those in most need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. The organization envisions helping youth to develop life skills, character, and citizenship needed to positively affect their futures.
What We Do
Through after-school services, summer programs, and a teen center, The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club provides a safe place for children to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring mentors, and life-enhancing experiences in five program areas:
- Character and Leadership: Helping youth develop leadership skills and skills for participating in the democratic process.
- Education and Career: Helping youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.
- Health and Life Skills: Helping youth to develop the capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals, and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
- Arts: Enabling youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts, and creative writing
- Sports, Fitness, and Recreation: Helping youth to develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment, and social and interpersonal skills.
