Who We Are
Mission: To mobilize our community (through volunteers) to work one house at a time helping lower the energy cost burden for our modest income neighbors.
Energy Savers Network (ESN) is a non-profit program that trains Volunteers to provide a suite of energy saving options and education at no cost to all clients, plus identify options for greater savings. We offer this as one among many solutions to the twin crises of climate change and inequality. To learn more, visit our website.
What We Do
Energy Savers Network provides free energy-efficiency upgrade services and retrofits for low-income households in Buncombe County, NC in order to reduce their energy need and save them money. We have served over 1,500 homes and are funded by Duke Energy, grants, private donations, and the good work of our volunteer corps. Most homes that we work on are small homes, mobile trailer park homes, Latinx community homes, and Housing Authority units, etc.
We also provide clients with educational resources and referrals to other programs when needed. Clients can sign up for services on our Apply page and volunteers can sign up for client workdays, or community outreach by responding to the opportunities listed below.
The energy-efficiency upgrades that our Volunteers offer to our Clients include:
- Install weather stripping on interior and exterior doors
- Seal air registers with duct sealant
- Insulate water pipes and water heaters
- Install low-flow water fixtures
- Replace light bulbs with LED lights
- Repair minor air leaks
- Install Smoke & Carbon Monoxide alarms
