MVM is looking for volunteers to help us in our mission to educate and preserve the history of our military veterans.
The museum currently has over sixteen thousand artifacts accessioned in its collection, ranging from small items like personal awards and ribbons on through the vehicles and a naval landing craft (Higgins Boat). The museum also receives many artifact donations from veterans and their families on a regular basis. The main goal of the museum at this point is to log the donation into our books and then catalog the donated artifacts into our computer database (a program called Past Perfect) as they come in, and catch up on a backlog of artifacts currently in the collection that are not entered in the database. For this job a person can come in any day of the week, once they have been trained in the entry system. As with our docents and cashiers, there is an expectation to put in a minimum of eight hours per month. More time put in monthly will also enable the volunteer to become and stay more proficient in the use of Past Perfect. Knowledge of military items like uniforms, weapons and hardware items is a definite plus in this job, as one has to be able enter in the database what the item is and then identify what grouping in Past Perfect it will fit under.
