MVM is looking for volunteers to help us in our mission to educate and preserve the history of our military veterans.
Cashiers often are the first friendly face visitors see when they visit the museum. In addition to overseeing the PX/gift shop and checking out people’s purchases, they greet people as they enter the building, asking if they have visited the museum before and if they are a veteran. Visitors are asked to sign into the guest book. There currently is no admission fee to visit the museum, although people are told donations are greatly appreciated. Cashiers then give a brief description of the museum and ask the visitors if they would prefer a docent take them around or just go through on their own. The visitor is then handed off to the docent, or the docent is informed the visitor chooses to do a self-tour. As with the docents, the days cashiers are scheduled is open to the calendar of the volunteer, and a person can do either half or full day on the day they are scheduled. The expectation for a cashier is that they put in a minimum of eight hours per month.
